Santorum Finally Gets A Goddamned Job

FishbowlDC has learned that former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R-Penn.) has signed on to be a contributor to Fox News Channel.

And now, a word about the choice of artwork to illustrate this breaking news story: we fully realize that depicting the ex-senator as Adolph Hitler is a tad inflammatory and, in some quarters, will be seen as “a bit much” or even a hair “over the top,” possibly even “offensive.” A little “too Michael Moore,” even. Too bad. Fact is, when we went through our photo archives looking for a sympathetic picture of Rick, well, let’s just say the pickens was slim. Let’s see, we had the Rick Santorum Queer Eye Makeover. The Santorum Is Satan one. Actually, there’s two. And then there was the animated GIF with a graphic explanation of a Dirty Santorum. Or the one that calls him Sanscrotum. Or the infamous I Eat Cock one. But when we weighed the vast ignorance-spreading power of Fox News and all the stupid useless self-righteous fearmongering hate-noise that comes out of Santorum’s mouth, well, the Hitler thing seemed just subtle enough. Besides, like all the chickenhawks, he’s got a lot of innocent blood on his hands. You can’t wash that shit off.

UPDATE: About two weeks ago, Santorum discussed “life after the Senate” with Brian Tierney, the Inky’s CEO and publisher, at the paper’s headquarters on 400 North Broad. “I stopped in for a meeting with Brian Tierney,” Santorum said. “He asked. He wanted to see me. They offered an opportunity to do that.” If hired, Santorum would join two other recent high-profile additions to the op-ed page: reporter Mark Bowden, author of Black Hawk Down, and conservative talk-show host Michael Smerconish, author of Muzzled: From T-Ball to Terrorism — True Stories That Should Be Fiction.
