SMUS: A Confederacy Of Thieves And Whores

BY WILLIAM C. HENRY You pretty much know that morality, ethics, and even the faintest of hopes for universal fairness in this country are on SMUS-avatarventilators when one of our most “respected” newspapers becomes willingly complicit in (a) the final auction gavel on the American electoral system, and (b) facilitating a national financial crisis so cataclysmic as to make the last one look like a rent check overdraft. How interesting it is that the Boston Globe should feel that getting an omnibus spending bill passed — ANY kind of omnibus spending bill — is worth caving in to the treacherous, money-grubbing interests of America’s premier purveyors of plutocracy, i.e. the Republican party.

This is truly despicable. What happened? Did they promise you Globe folks free orange pekoe for life? Believe me, I thought I’d witnessed every kind of mephitic political sellout Washington and the deceitful American press had to offer, but a venerable one hundred forty-two year old American masthead willing to join in flushing the nations election AND financial systems down the toilet in order to placate one of the most corrupt political consortiums on earth is the kind of cheap bum fodder that would clog even the Capitol’s heavy duty sewer system! But hold on to your you’ve-got-to-be-sh*tting-me’s because the worst is yet to come: THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND THIRTY-ONE DEMOCRAT UNITED STATES SENATORS were among the most prolific FLUSHERS!

I simply can’t stress enough what a travesty, what a double-dealing Judas-kiss piece of excrement this document is for all Americans EXCEPT the wealthy and the powerful. So, where the hell is the denunciation from America’s media?! Where the hell is the condemnation?! It’s a goddamn disgrace! Think of it, the President of the United States and many of his fellow Democrats in the Senate and House of Representatives (and, of course, nearly every Republican thereabouts) and apparently much of the national media believe that it’s hunky-dory to have an omnibus spending bill that among other things 1) hammers the final nail in the coffin of universal representative government, 2) once again allows the Wall Street money changers to gamble fast and loose with YOUR money, YOUR livelihood, YOUR future, with no consequences for dereliction or duplicity on their part, 3) decreases funding for an already hobbled IRS (great for the rich and the mighty since fewer resources for agents or audits), 4) provides hundreds of millions of dollars in additional funding for a $1.5 TRILLION weapon system that doesn’t work and the military didn’t even ask for, 5) makes a mockery of some of the nation’s most pressing climate and environmental issues, 6) contains some 1,700 additional pages of provisions and fetid “pork” that FEW if ANY elected senators or representatives bothered to so much as FLIP THROUGH!

Where do these so-called ‘compromisers’ come from?! What makes these conscienceless bastards so impervious to the needs, desires and benefits of or to America’s middle and lower classes and the planet itself?! Where do these greed-possessed creeps originate?! In petri dishes?! Believe me, there’s something far more sinister than political philosophy in play here. The depth of betrayal borders on treason. One thing’s for certain: if they call themselves Christians or religionists of any persuasion, they’re obviously some of the most “faithful” hypocrites on the face of their god’s green earth. They are the worst of the Sunday (or Saturday depending upon their particular predilection) pretenders, liars, panderers and phonies. For god’s sake, these are the kind of mercenaries who when pressed could no doubt look you in the eyes and tell you how they had had to destroy the country in order to save it.

On the other hand, why do I upset myself like this? Nothing is going to change. Money will always breed more money and attendant corruption. Power will always breed more power and attendant corruption. Media that have become the very elite they were supposed to be warning us about will remain obligated to tell us no more than will assure continued access to those “exclusive” sources. An un-/under- or ill-informed public will continue to lead lives of exploitation, illusion or complacency, or simply quiet desperation. Let’s face it, tomorrow’s inescapable outlook is as clear today as it was for Franklin D. Roosevelt some seventy-five years ago: “We had to struggle with the old enemies of peace — business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering. They had begun to consider the government of the United States as a mere appendage to their own affairs and we know now that a government by organized money is just as bad as a government by organized mob.”
