MACCA & NIRVANA: Cut Me Some Slack

BILLBOARD: After a quick story about “jamming” with a few guys recently, McCartney said it dawned on him that he was “in the middle of a Nirvana reunion.” After introducing Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear to the stage, the quartet tore into a thick and bluesy track called “Cut Me Some Slack,” about having fun or rolling into town (or something). The combination was implausible but not completely preposterous, since Nirvana did have a Beatles streak. But the new song they wrote together–contrary to pre-show reports, they didn’t perform old Nirvana songs–wasn’t immediately inspiring. It was more like a stomping, grunge-bottomed homage to “Helter Skelter,” with lyrics like “Mama, watch me run/Mama, let have some fun” that Mr. McCartney clearly had some fun belting while the band bashed away.
