As with all things TMI, the truth is hard to come by. I'll try to wiggle my "for what it's worth" in and say the only exposure the public received after the TMI meltdown was to the media. The event sold alot of soap on TV, provided alot of contractors work for years in the cleanup and gave families in an otherwise boring corner of the world something to talk about. As for the goofs that ended up with shriveled kidneys and bad heart valves, umm did they ever check those folks for alcoholism? Not much to do in Middletown.
Oh by the way - after the cats tried to kill the birds, because they were hungry, because nobody was feeding them, the dog killed the cats and then died too. Because he was hungry. Or choked on cat fur. Maybe the neighbor kids went on a shooting spree with a BB gun. Never mind - I recognize Phawker isn't real journalism and facts aren't checked. Couldn't resist though.
