There's two sides to this, one is that it is incredibly unfortunate that a major city like Philadelphia has such an embarrassment for a daily newspaper. That's bad. The other side is that people like Tierney who insist on pushing the flatly rejected ideas of the Santorums and Yoos of the world are keeping their party fiercely divided and without direction, which essentially ensures future victories for the opposition. That's good.

So, honestly, I'm all for Limbaugh, Cheney, Yoo, Santorum, etc. being in the spotlight running their mouths and shouting down the moderates of their own party. That's totally fine with me, in fact, I think it's awesome. I just wish it was happening in another newspaper, because seriously, this shit (the Inquirer) is such a fucking bad joke at this point just looking at it is like getting kicked in the nuts.

i cancelled my 7 week subscription to the inquirer when they hired santorum and let them know that was why. about 3 months ago i caved and subscribed to the sunday edition to get the coupons, which really do pay for the paper +, but having yoo appear in this rag is making me reconsider. Ive written 2 letters complaining but of course they aren't printed.

the entire currents section is a piece of crap anyway, so i guess running yoo only makes sense. after yoo, I wash that crap down with some kevin ferris...

John Yoo should not be allowed to talk about "empathy" or "balls and strikes," considering he believes the President is allowed to order a child's testicles crushed, as a torture technique.

Some people are so utterly mendacious and morally stunted they make you question the First Amendment. John Yoo is one of them.

Are you using a baseball analogy or making a literal reference to "“enhanced interrogation techniques?“

Inky: "John Yoo (jyoo@law.berkeley.edu) is a law professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and a visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. He has served as a law clerk to Justice Clarence Thomas.

That's like:

"Albert Speer (aspeer@spandau.mil) is a well-known architect and civil servant. He served in a number of posts in a previous German government.

And I'm probably being unfair to Speer.

What makes this almost inconceivable is that out of the zillion or so conservative lawyers and/or legal analysts who would love to bloviate oin print about Obama's first SC pick, Tierney went and chose a fucking war criminal -- or at the least, a fucking mouthpiece for fucking war criminals.

Maybe next time he could get that grandstanding French lawyer who defended Klaus Barbie. I bet he'd love a regular op-ed gig at the Inky.

Compare the Inquirer's description of Yoo vs what you posted from Wikipedia

Inky:

John Yoo (jyoo@law.berkeley.edu) is a law professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and a visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. He has served as a law clerk to Justice Clarence Thomas.
