EDITOR & PUBLISHER: For those holding out for some improvement in print circulation, this morning brings disappointment. The Audit Bureau of Circulations released the latest figures for the six- month period ending September 2008 and the report shows major drops in circulation at the big metros. According to ABC for the 507 newspapers reporting in this period, daily circulation slipped 4.6% to 38,165,848 copies. For the 571 papers, Sunday dropped 4.8% to 43,631,646 copies. For comparison purposes, in September 2007 reporting period, daily circ fell 2.6% and Sunday was down 4.6%. […] Daily circulation at The Philadelphia Inquirer slipped 11.0% to 300,674 copies. In court records unsealed Monday, federal agents said they disrupted plans to rob a gun store and target a predominantly African-American high school by two neo-Nazi skinheads. The men, Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn., and Paul Schlesselman 18, of West Helena, Ark., are being held without bond. The two were charged by federal authorities Monday with possessing an unregistered firearm, conspiring to steal firearms from a federally licensed gun dealer, and threatening a candidate for president. SMOKING GUN: In the ATF affidavit, a copy of which you’ll find below, Cowart and Schlesselman “discussed the killing spree to include targeting a predominately African-American school, going state to state while robbing individuals and continuing to kill people.” The pair’s “final act of violence” would be an attempt to kill Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee. In separate interviews with investigators, the men said that they planned to speed their vehicle toward Obama while “shooting at him from the windows.” Apparently befitting the historic assault, Cowart and Schlesselman “stated they would dress in all white tuxedos and wear top hats during the assassination attempt.” MORE

Satire? Yeah, the best satire includes lines like ‘I’m kinda kidding!’
Definition of satire: “trenchant wit, irony, or sarcasm used to expose and discredit vice or folly”
What folly, exactly, were you ‘satirizing’? All the calls to ban black Americans from voting? The racism that might keep Obama from winning (though polls say race is actually BENEFITING him?) What you were satirizing was a Philadelphia blogger’s unfamiliarity with Everyone Who is Not Him.
Most readers familiar with snarky web sites knew you weren’t seriously calling to ban white voters. You were goosing web traffic with a politically correct faux rant. A liberal, race-baiting blog helped a liberal race-baiting newspaper feel relevant for a day.
Where does anyone get the idea the Inquirer is in the tank for liberals?
