CONTEST: Question The Parking Authority

parasite_v2.jpg

While the majority of the money the Philadelphia Parking Authority collects from parking tickets and fines goes directly to Harrisburg’s coffers, a set percentage is earmarked for the cash-strapped Philadelphia School District. However, according to reports in the Daily News and Inquirer, the PPA has not paid the school district a dime since 2004, and is in fact in arrears to the tune of $20 million to $45 million depending on who you ask. There is a word for organisms like the PPA that are all take and no give: Parasite. Dictionary.com defines ‘parasite’ as the following:

par·a·site [paruh-sahyt] –noun

1. an organism that lives on or in an organism of another species, known as the host, from the body of which it obtains nutriment.
2. a person who receives support, advantage, or the like, from another or others without giving any useful or proper return, as one who lives on the hospitality of others.

So, you hate the PPA and we hate the PPA, but what can we do about it? Frankly, not much. However, we can exercise our First Amendment rights and make our extreme displeasure known to the powers that be. But how, Phawker, HOW? you ask. Simple. Just CLICK HERE, print out this handy-dandy protest placard, cut along the dotted line and place it under your windshield wiper every time you park in the city. Anybody that actually goes to all the trouble of doing all this AND takes a picture of their handiwork and sends it to feed@phawker.com will receive this handsome T-shirt pictured below.
